Susan Sanchez Murphy was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico in 1962 and moved to the United States in 1980 to attend the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. While at SMU, she studied at the Meadow School of the Arts with Stephen Wilder, Laurence Scholder, William Bailey and visiting professor Neil Welliver, who awarded her a full scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania's graduate art program.
Susan lives in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with her husband, Edward Murphy, who is a professional woodworker and artist and when she’s not painting, she is likely to be cooking or gardening.
